Describing traditions
Each tradition is first described in its own terms, using the language its adherents use. Where traditions disagree, we set out each position together with the reasons given for it. Historical findings are presented as findings, with their limits stated.
Accuracy
Articles draw on scripture, established scholarship and the teaching of the traditions themselves. Claims about dates, numbers and events are checked before publication. Where scholars disagree, we say so.
Language and conventions
- Dates use BCE and CE.
- Arabic and Hebrew terms appear in transliteration with a translation on first use.
- Names follow common English usage, with the form used in other traditions noted where helpful.
Corrections
We correct factual errors as soon as we confirm them and note significant corrections at the end of the article. To report an error, use the Contact page.
